Rep. Green responds to racist threats: 'You have to confront hate'

Congressman Al Green, the Democrat who represent's Texas' 9th District in the U.S. House, on Sunday revealed that he has received death threats - complete with profanity and repeated use of "the N word" since making a statement on the House floor calling for Donald Trump to be impeached. "I as a white woman stand by my brother and say we will not tolerate those kind of death threats and racial slurs that are being thrown at you".

During a town hall meeting over the weekend Green said he was not deterred.

"Hey, Al Green, we got an impeachment for you".

"You'll be hanging from a tree", the caller continued.

"We are not going to be intimidated", Green said Saturday.

"You're not going to impeach anybody, you f-- n-- ..."

Green took to the House floor on Wednesday to say he believes Trump committed obstruction of justice when he fired FBI Director James Comey amid the agency's investigation of possible links between Russian Federation and Trump campaign associates.

Green said he wanted his constituents to be aware of the hateful calls he's receiving.

He said he chose to share the voicemails because "you can not allow hate to be hidden". Hate is a means why which people can be harmed.

Trump, a Republican, has dismissed criticism of his firing of FBI Director James Comey amid the agency's investigation of possible links between Russian Federation and Trump campaign associates.

The House would have to pass it with a majority vote, then the Senate would hold a trial overseen by the chief justice of the Supreme Court.

At the town hall meeting, Green only doubled down on his calls for Trump's impeachment.

"I think, not only should the Federal Bureau of Investigation director be fired, but the whole Federal Bureau of Investigation should be restructured and not act as a political police against our elected officials", said Betty Jennings. He was born in Kenya, he's not even an American.
