US Will Continue to Reduce Greenhouse Emissions, Says Rex Tillerson

In the wake of President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw from the Paris climate accord, Yale is considering joining a group of more than 80 universities that have pledged to meet the greenhouse gas emission targets laid out in the agreement, according to Vice President for Communications Eileen O'Connor. The bottom line, he said, is that the Paris agreement cost the

"But doesn't it matter whether or not the President believes there is manmade climate change, whether he believes it's a hoax?"

Bloomberg adviser Pope notes that the United States has already achieved half of the emissions reductions it promised in Paris. "It's an important worldwide agreement on climate change".

"To everyone for whom the future of our planet is important, I say let's continue going down this path so we're successful for our Mother Earth", she said to applause from lawmakers.

Mr. Trump complained the deal would "hamstring" US energy business, particularly the embattled coal industry, and that it favours competitors such as China and India over the interests of the United States.

During a visit last month to Saudia Arabia and Israel, Trump urged moderate Arab states and Israel to unite against the common foe of Iran. Leaders in Italy, Germany, and France released a rare joint statement condemning Mr Trump's actions, and said that the deal wasn't renegotiable even though the US President said he would seek a better deal than what Paris outlined.

"It's both bad energy policy and, as equally important, bad for America's leadership in the world when you couple this with what he did not do overseas in supporting and reaffirming America's commitment on North Atlantic Treaty Organisation and pulling out of the Asia-Pacific trade agreement". In announcing his decision, Trump said he was "elected to represent the citizens of Pittsburgh, not Paris".

Although he wouldn't speak for President Trump, Pruitt did share his own opinions on climate change.

Raimondo said Friday that Trump's action will not deter Rhode Island from taking the steps needed to address climate change.

Macron called Trump's decision not to honor the Paris agreement a "mistake" and ruled out of any renegotiation. Bloomberg is said to have amassed a fortune worth $50 billion, and his Philanthropic Foundation has long worked on environmental initiatives. It also also took shots at the media for keeping Trump "under siege".

Around 150 mayors, who say they represent 47 million Americans, have also committed to uphold the Paris commitments, intensify efforts to meet climate goals and increase investments in renewable energy and energy efficiency.

Trump's zero-sum gain perspective on the deal isn't useful.

Charlie Baker and Phil Scott, the Republican governors of MA and Vermont respectively, announced that their liberal northeastern states were joining the Climate Alliance and committed to the goals of the Paris agreement, as did their Democratic counterparts in CT and Rhode Island.

"I have not had an opportunity to have that discussion", Spicer said.

However, Republican congressional leaders and the USA coal industry backed the move, with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell supporting Mr Trump "for dealing yet another significant blow to the Obama administration's assault on domestic energy production and jobs".

China, now the world's largest polluter, has emerged as Europe's unlikely partner in this and other areas - underlining Trump's isolation on many issues.
