Fisker EMotion Teased Anew, Will Start At $129900

Production of the Fisker EMotion is now scheduled to start in 2019 at an undisclosed location. A small four-door (four butterfly doors, that is) powered by electricity and purporting an ambitious 400-mile range.

The EMotion has a neat design on the inside and outside, using carbon fiber and aluminum structure to redefine the proportions of an electric vehicle.

The company earned a patent on the Emotion's frontal crash structure that exceeds current minimum standards for occupant protection. Designer Henrik Fisker said on Twitter that the auto has, "Eyes like a panther and front design with integrated LIDAR in the black center bright piece". Fisker says it's able to achieve this thanks to the vehicle's "advanced high-energy density, patent-pending battery pack and cooling system". Carbon fiber and aluminum wheels, developed in partnership with Dymag, are said to reduce rotational mass by 40 percent and contribute to its impressive range. The vehicle will be charged through Fisker's proprietary "UltraCharger" system, that the company claims will provide over 100 miles of range in just nine minutes of charging.

The black motif at the front houses a LIDAR sensor, which is a key component for autonomous driving, using lasers for measuring distance and allowing a vehicle to calculate its position and heading relative to other static and moving objects. It also has a healthy selection on onboard sensors, including LiDAR and mirror cameras that enable 360-degree optical sensing. It also gets a low hood line "surrounded by sculptural front fenders and a tapered green house with large sculptural rear fenders". The EMotion will be serviced through The Hybrid Shop (THS), a joint venture between Fisker Inc. and THS. Pre-orders kick off on June 30, too, with more details to be revealed this month in order to drum up interest from those willing to put down some early cash.
