Mayweather to fight UFC star McGregor Aug. 26

McGregor has previously described the match up as "historic", while Mayweather - who will risk ideal, 49 fight unbeaten record - told his fans a few weeks ago "Everybody get your phones out and get this on the internet ASAP". But the fight is said to be taking place in Las Vegas.

Mayweather confirmed the bout - which will take place under normal boxing rules despite McGregor having never boxed either amateur or professionally - on his official Twitter feed.

The boxing match has been confirmed by both Irish fighter and former American boxing legend on social media on Wednesday. Earlier White speculated Mayweather would get at least $100 million from the fight and McGregor $75 million.

After all, the biggest victor is the sport of boxing.

"Everybody's happy", said Mayweather's adviser, Leonard Ellerbe.

The bout will be scheduled for 12 rounds at the junior middleweight limit of 154lbs with 10-ounce gloves and the fight will be televised on pay-per-view on Showtime and will gross tens of millions of dollars.

Mayweather weighed 146 pounds for his last fight against Manny Pacquiao in 2015.

The Nevada Athletic Commission recently approved a request from Mayweather Promotions to stage a boxing card at the MGM Grand on August 26, although there were also multiple reports that the date of July 29 had also been set aside.

The weight may be more challenging for McGregor.

Mayweather is widely regarded as one of the best defensive fighters ever and prides himself on his ability to evade punishment with his movement and to adjust on the fly.

Bookmakers have made Mayweather the favourite to win the bout, dismissing McGregor's chances in a boxing match.

The odds as they stand now, according to the Westgate Las Vegas Superbook: Floyd Mayweather is a -1100 favorite to the +700 underdog Conor McGregor.

"I don't know what it means for UFC", White said on ESPN.

"I talked to Conor McGregor this morning...he is absolutely 100 per cent positive that he wins this fight".

"It's interesting. I'm not saying McGregor is going to win".
