'McGregor will do well to land glove on Mayweather' - Frampton

The contest will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, with the Nevada State Athletic Commission having approved the date for a Mayweather Promotions fight, Nevada State Athletic Commission executive director Bob Bennett confirmed. But on August 26 - barring accident or injury - the best boxer of the generation will face the stellar name in the neophyte, yet hugely popular, sport of mixed martial arts.

Espinoza said the fight came together quickly after McGregor and the UFC reached agreement last month on their end of the deal and Mayweather's team pushed for the fight in recent days.

The cost of tickets and the price of the pay-per-view has not been decided, though the pay-per-view is expected to be at or near the $99.95 charged for Mayweather's 2015 fight with Manny Pacquiao that drew a record 4.4 million pay-per-view buys.

"The reason he's such a superstar is this guy will fight anyone, anywhere and at any time", UFC chief Dana White said about his fighter.

Mayweather, 40, who will come out of retirement for the boxing match, is undefeated in his previous 49 bouts, while Irishman McGregor, 28, is the only UFC fighter to hold a world title in two different weight divisions.

"And judging by the fact we've seen more than £100k bet on the fight in just 12 hours, we expect this to become the biggest boxing event of all time on Betfair Exchange".

"If you look at Mayweather's fights he often likes to get into the clinch, but what is a boxer in a clinch against a wrestler, an MMA fighter?"

The fight that has been described as a "farce" and a "circus" bout could earn both men as much as $100m (£78.4m). Still, the fans want this match thanks to the promotional ability of McGregor, who has been calling Mayweather out for years.
