Celtics in 'serious' talks to trade No. 1 pick to Sixers

Reports from Woj and ESPN indicate that Lakers pick will have some interesting protections on it: if the lottery ultimately places it in picks two through five it will not convey to the Celtics, but will instead stay with the Sixers, and the Celtics will instead receive the 2019 pick of the Sacramento Kings, also now owned by the Sixers.

Markelle Fultz is expected by many to be the No. 1 pick in the draft.

Los Angeles Lakers president Magic Johnson is reportedly "in love with Markelle Fultz" and will try to move up to the No. 1 slot ahead of Thursday's NBA Draft. "I'm anxious to get to that day and get it over with". That was big. Of course being out there, I could imagine myself on the court, helping the team out for sure.

It was for this reason that insiders were believing the Celtics would wait until draft night to complete any type of deal with Philly. The announcement of the particulars will likely happen Monday.

The 76ers have a top-three pick for the fourth straight year: No. 3 Joel Embiid in 2014, No. 3 Jahlil Okafor in 2015 and Simmons in 2016. 1 pick in the National Basketball Association draft for the first time in lottery history and you trade it?

However, the Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the Celtics will receive the No. 3 overall pick in this year's draft, and either the Lakers' 2018 first-round pick or Sacramento's 2019 first-round pick in exchange - both had been controlled by Philadelphia. The latter pick is unprotected.

De'Aaron Fox is a lottery pick in every Mock Draft out there. Instead, it looked for so long that he would go to the Celtics.

What Does This Say About Fultz?

He's a cool guy. "I'm pretty happy that the players here want me to come here". But when he did get there he showed up wearing a Sixers hat.

You'd probably be looking at a starting five of Simmons, Fultz, Robert Covington, Dario Saric and Embiid. While this may be a childish game to play with their longtime rivals, the Lakers should draft Jackson in spite of the Celtics. The Celtics presumably would take Jackson third, if the Lakers took Ball at No. 2. Bullock, 26, averaged 4.5 points in 31 games for Detroit last season.

If Ainge thought there was a even a chance that Fultz could turn out to be a generational star - a 6-foot-4 Tracy McGrady was a comparison recently thrown around on Bill Simmons podcast - then he doesn't' do this deal.

Last season, Fultz led the Pac-12 in scoring, was sixth among Division I players and the most prolific freshman scorer in the country.
