MLB Predictions: Will Orioles avoid being swept by Yankees? 6/11/17

It used to be that when the fans at Angel Stadium chanted "MVP!"

No, odd as it sounded, this time they were for New York Yankees rookie sensation Aaron Judge, whose two-run homer in the eighth inning sent the Angels to a 5-3 loss in front of 36,245 and added another line to his already remarkable resume to start the season.

Judge is now leading the American League with 21 home runs, 41 RBIs, 4.1 wins above replacement and a.344 batting average on the season. "Up and down, even in the leadoff spot you've got guys that can hit homers", Judge said, in describing the Yankees starting lineup to The New York Daily News.

How many seasons did it take Mickey Mantle to hit 30 or more home runs in a season? I've watched and been to plenty of Yankee games.

Judge, who grew up in Linden, Calif. - almost 400 miles north of Anaheim - blasted a tie-breaking, two-run homer to right field that traveled 438 feet with one out in the eighth inning, enabling the Yankees to beat the Angels 5-3 and increase their winning streak to six on Monday night at Angel Stadium.

Tanaka was charged with one earned run on four hits over 6.2 innings, with two walks and eight strikeouts. Judge later singled and scored in the seventh off Angels reliever Keynan Middleton, boosting New York's lead to 3-1.

Gausman has finally started to turn the corner this season after going 2-1 with a respectable 4.01 ERA over his last four outings.

"It's incredible", Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu was removed from the game in the seventh inning after getting hit on the left leg by a pitch from Miller. That one looked like it was hit by a mere mortal, however. After a single and two walks loaded the bases with one out, Sandy Leon struck out. Hardy (1-for-8) have struggled against the Yankees promising young hurler, while Trey Mancini (3-for-3), Trumbo (4-for-10, 2 HR, 3 RBI) and Machado (4-for-14, 3 HR, 5 RBI) have tagged him hard. Instead, the inning was extended, and Danny Espinosa's two-out, RBI single knocked Tanaka out of the game. Cameron Maybin then knotted the score with an RBI double off Tyler Clippard. Dellin Betances got the final four outs for his sixth save.

Dexter Fowler hit a three-run homer for St. Louis, and Adam Wainwright tossed five solid innings.

Kole Calhoun homered for the Angels.

The Yankees scored five runs in the first inning and pulled away in the middle innings.

Question: Can the Angels pull a double upset in back to back series?

Right-hander James Kaprielian, the Yankees' first-round pick in 2015 out of UCLA, visited the team Monday.

The Yankees took the lead in the fifth inning, and knocked Meyer out of the game in the process.

Speaking of '61, Judge is the first Yankee to hit 20 homers before the All-Star break at age 25 or younger since Roger Maris that season.

In 12 games against the Orioles, Judge is hitting.475 (19-for-40) and has eight homers, four doubles, 16 RBIs and eight walks. Schmidt, 21, was 4-2 with a 1.34 ERA while holding opponents to a.194 average at the University of SC before undergoing Tommy John surgery in April. The Angels selected OF Jordon "Jo" Adell in the first round of Monday's draft, the 10th player picked overall.

According to the Sporting News, the longest home run ever hit at Yankee Stadium (old or new) is 580 ft. Yankees RHP Ben Heller was called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
