Trump Representative Claims He is Not Under Investigation

USA Today, reporting on Sekulow's interviews this morning, checked with its own sources about who's right and who's wrong: "A person familiar with the matter confirmed to USA TODAY that Trump is indeed under investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller and his team". Sekulow went on to add, "There's a limitation on Twitter, as we all know".

Trump, who has denied any collusion between his campaign and Russian Federation, has frequently lashed out about the allegations, which have overshadowed his administration's efforts to overhaul the healthcare system, cut taxes and boost jobs. He also said he has "every problem" with Mueller's investigation, and finds the special counsel's public friendship with fired FBI Director James Comey "weird". Russian officials have denied meddling in the United States election.

Also, it was Rosenstein who appointed Robert S. Mueller III as the special counsel to lead that investigation after Comey was sacked.

But Sekulow said repeatedly Sunday that "the president has not been and is not under investigation".

Sekulow acknowledged that he could not be certain that the report was false. Marco Rubio said Sunday that he does not expect Trump to seek to fire them.

Peter Carr, a spokesman for the Mueller team, declined to comment.

When Wallace pointed out that he'd used the word "investigated", Sekulow said that he was responding to a hypothetical situation that would occur if the president were being investigated, which he definitely is not. "The president issued that tweet, that social media statement, based on a fake report, a report with no documented sources".

MrTrump's anger has highlighted the difficulty his legal team and advisers face in stopping the President from weighing in on an active investigation. At that time, defense lawyers often will ask for their client's status.

"No answer is probably the most troubling answer in criminal defence", Cohen said. He then stated again that Trump was not being investigated.

Mueller would be allowed, though not required, to answer that question, unless it involved material before a grand jury, the former White House lawyer said. "It's all about him". He can not in a Twitter statement include all of that in there. "And instead of attacking Trump, Rubio seemed nearly in awe of being around him".

I think he's furious.

"Nothing he's tweeted has caused me any issues whatsoever", he said.

"I don't believe it's going to happen", said Rubio on CNN's "State of the Union". Rep. Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the House intelligence committee, said on ABC's "This Week" that the panel is looking forward to getting a response from the White House on whether recordings exist. However, that argument conveniently ignores that Comey was sacked more than a month ago, prior to the appointment of Mueller, and most importantly, that Comey's firing itself could have been the reason for opening an investigation into Trump's possible obstruction of justice.

"They want to lay the foundation to discredit whatever Bob Mueller comes up with".

He said Trump should "ask that it be thorough and completed expeditiously and be very cooperative with it".

The FBI "doesn't sit around all day and read tweets", said Rubio, a Republican from Florida who's a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee.

"Let me be very clear here, as it has been since the beginning, the president is not and has not been under investigation for obstruction", Sekulow said. Last week he described the concerns about Russian influence in US elections as a "phony" story. "This isn't a one-off deal", he said.
