U.S. lawmaker shot by anti-Trump gunman showing improvement

Dr. Jack Sava, the director of trauma at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, updated his status on Friday afternoon, touting Scalise's improved outlook days after his arrival and 'imminent risk of death'.

Trump, in a video message played at the game, said the event had "a much deeper level of meaning" because of the shooting.

Nonetheless, said Sava, "We fully expect him to be able to walk" and "hopefully run".

Sue Hodgkinson said she felt "horrible", saying, "I had no idea this was going to happen and I don't know what to say about it".

Scalise, Tyson Foods lobbyist Matt Mika, congressional aide Zach Barth and US Capitol Police officer Crystal Griner were shot during an attack on the Republican congressional baseball team as it practiced Wednesday morning.

"Congressman Steve Scalise is in serious condition", the statement from MedStar Washington Hospital said.

The list contained about a dozen names, a source said.

Scalise was in dire condition when he was shot at the Congressional baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia, on Wednesday.

The doctor said Scalise has been sedated although the dosage has been turned down to allow him to respond to family members. According to The Hill, he is doing better after multiple surgeries but must stay at MedSatr Washington Hospital "for some time".

Sava said Friday that there are hundreds of bullet fragments in Scalise's body, but "we have no intention to try and remove all the bullet fragments at this point".

Scalise "continues to show signs of improvement", the hospital said Saturday. Duncan said he told him it was a Republican ball practice, and Hodgkinson started to shoot them. 66-year-old James Hodgkinson was later identified as the shooter.

Left-wing terrorist James T. Hodgkinson had an assassination list of conservative House members in his pocket, according to an exclusive report in The Daily Caller.

The lawmakers took the field with many wearing hats to honor Scalise.

Two other people injured in Wednesday's attack in Alexandria, Va., remain hospitalized.

Bailey was spotted Friday back in the Capitol building, on crutches and out of uniform, accepting congratulations from fellow officers.
