WASHINGTON — The Latest on the investigation into Russia's actions in the 2016 elections.

"Let me be clear, the president is not under investigation". He said he told Mr. Comey "that the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Justice needed to be careful to follow department policies regarding appropriate contact with the White House".

Department of Justice-appointed Special Counsel Robert Mueller is conducting what is generally called a preliminary inquiry into possible obstruction of justice involving President Donald Trump, as it pertains to his broader investigation into Russian meddling in the USA presidential election. Comey says that immediately following this meeting he wrote down what he says was said at the meeting.

Any kind of alleged effort to interfere in an investigation could potentially lead to an obstruction of justice investigation targeting the president and his aides.

President Donald Trump recently announced over Twitter that he was being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation as part of a widening probe into alleged Russian meddling in last year's US presidential race and possible collusion by his campaign - an inquiry that has cast a shadow over his five months in office.

Gorelick is a partner at the WilmerHale law firm.

As the Russian Federation investigation continues, Kushner's allies have reportedly raised questions about the relationship between Gorelick and Mueller.

The Justice Department has said Muller's work at the firm does not disqualify him from leading the investigation. The department said last month that under professional responsibility rules, Mueller may participate in matters involving his former firm's clients as long as he wasn't involved in representing them and has no confidential information about them.

Himes says interviews are still being scheduled and documents being reviewed. The subcommittee is examining what US intelligence agencies say was a Russian campaign of influence was meant to boost Donald Trump's chances of winning the 2016 presidential election.

Himes says it's important for the committee to conduct its investigation right rather than quickly.

Spicer said Monday's news conference was off-camera because "there are days that I'll decide that the president's voice should be the one that speaks".

President Donald Trump's son-in-law and senior adviser may be getting new legal representation as the special counsel investigation into Russia's election meddling heats up.

Gorelick, who is preparing Kushner to meet with Senate Intelligence Committee investigators, in a statement to the Times on Sunday described Kushner's recent talks with other legal counsel.

It's unclear where that process stands. Abbe D. Lowell, a prominent trial attorney who represented Republican lobbyist Jack Abramoff in a 2005 corruption scandal and is now representing NJ Sen.

Kushner's contacts with Russians during the transition have been scrutinized as part of the widening probes into whether Trump's team coordinated with Moscow during the election.

Russian Federation denies that it conducted such a campaign, and Trump denies there was any collusion between his campaign and Moscow.

The Secret Service denied the agency has tapes in response to an Freedom of Information Act request by the New York Times, saying, "There are no records pertaining to your request".

Last week, Trump sent a tweet referring to being the victim of a "witch hunt".

Appearing on a series of morning news programs, attorney Jay Sekulow repeatedly stressed that "the president has not been and is not under investigation". Making the rounds on the Sunday shows, Sekulow also insisted on CNN's "State of the Union" the Trump's tweet was in response to The Washington Post story.

Sekulow said that Trump has not been notified of any investigation.

Sekulow said Trump "is not and has not been under investigation".
