Weather system upgraded to Tropical Storm Bret

On the current forecast track, the storm system will move toward the Louisiana coast on Tuesday and Wednesday.

However, sustained surface winds of between 40 to 50 knots (45 to 55 mph) with higher gusts on the northern periphery of the potential storm are expected to impact Barbados late Monday into Tuesday morning.

Located 305 miles south of the mouth of the MS, the brewing storm was heading north towards Louisiana at around 9mph. If this system becomes better organized and we find there is a well-defined center of circulation, then it would be classified a tropical storm and the name would be BRET. 2.

There are two systems that meteorologists are watching closely and both could be the next two named storms of the hurricane season. The first is a composite of the different models and where they believe the center of this system will track.

A broad surface low forming in the Gulf of Honduras has a high chance of developing into a tropical depression or storm that could threaten Texas, according to the National Weather Service.

Heavy rain is expected along the Gulf Coast this week. A Tropical Storm Watch means that tropical storm conditions are possible within the watch area, generally within 48 hours. The threat is subject to change given the eventual path the storm decides to take.

The NHC said tropical storm-force winds are expected in that area Monday night. The forecast shows an even wider area from southeastern Louisiana into the western Florida Panhandle could receive as much as 10 inches (25 centimeters) of rain over three days.

Weather experts are monitoring an area of rain and clouds in the area of the northwestern Caribbean Sea and Yucatan Peninsula that has the potential to form. (NHC) There's also another storm in the Atlantic - Tropical Storm Bret. This storm is now situated just off the coast of Venezuela moving west northwest at 25 miles per hour.

On Monday afternoon, that system was passing over the Caribbean islands of Trinidad, Tobago and Grenada, off the coast of Venezuela.
