Qatar Airways is 'world's best airline'

This year's edition tallied 19.87 million votes by passengers from 105 different countries, asking customers to nominate the airline they think is the best, and giving grades on a 1-5 scale for both airport and onboard experience.

AirAsia Group Chief Executive Officer, Tan Sri Tony Fernandes, said the company was honoured to receive the awards and it reflected the company's commitment to deliver only the best for the valued guests.

As for category rankings, the airline came in third for World's Best Inflight Entertainment and World's Best Business Class, fourth for World's Best Premium Economy Class, fifth for World's Best First Class, World's Best Economy Class, and World's Best Cabin Staff, as well as ninth for World's Best Airlines Cabin Cleanliness. Turkish Airlines, however, lost its best airline in Europe title to Lufthansa after keeping it for six years.

"Over the last 15 years we have created a great brand and over the next 15, we want to move towards One AirAsia, a truly Asean community airline". The airline reclaimed its crown after finishing second a year ago to its Dubai, UAE-based rival Emirates. "We asked David and Roberto to accept this award with Suhaila to inspire our staff to emulate these two awesome gentleman in music and sports to be world champion and be the very best in all they do". They are the real champions.

AirAsia is Asia's largest low-priced carrier by the number of passengers carried, with an extensive network covering more than 120 destinations in 26 countries across Asia, Australia and New Zealand, the Middle East and the United States.

Qatar Airways has been named the best in the world by consumer aviation website Skytrax at the 2017 World Airline Awards in Paris on Tuesday.

Aeroflot participated this year for the first time as a 4-Star Airline, having become the first Russian airline to gain this status from Skytrax in 2016. Only nine airline hold the status, seven from Asia and two from the Middle East.
