Iran says missile strike targeting ISIS was warning to US, Saudis

Raising concerns over what he called "a unsafe escalation", the lawmaker said it wasn't in American interests to get involved in Syria's civil war.

Russia, a key ally of Syrian President Bashar Assad, called on the USA military to provide a full accounting as to why it made a decision to shoot down the Syrian Su-22 bomber.

According to thestatement, the plane was carrying out operations against Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) convoy in the countryside around Raqqa when it was targeted, leading to a crash and the loss of the pilot, who is now missing.

Moscow, for its part, on Monday suspended a crucial safe flights over Syria deal with the USA under a memorandum and called the downing of the jet a "violation" of the Syria's sovereignty and worldwide law.

Iran's onslaught on the MEK came following the MEK's launch of more than a dozen mortar attacks around Tehran.

Russian Federation says it is waiting for the U.S.to explain its decision to shoot down a Syrian warplane.

A defense official, who was not authorized to be quoted by name and spoke on condition of anonymity, said the drone shot down Tuesday was a Shaheed 129 and appeared to have been operated by "pro-regime" forces. Bahram Qasemi, the Foreign Ministry spokesman said the Syrian government was notified of the attack before it was carried out.

Yezid Sayigh, a senior fellow at the Carnegie Middle East Center in Beirut, said the sides were establishing red lines in a fluid situation, and the Syrian government was "always testing and pushing the boundaries".

KENYON: Well, I think it will.

"With (the help of) intensive Russian bombing they are trying to advance but we are repelling them", al-Haj added. Iran has sent to Syria military advisers as well as thousands of "volunteer" fighters recruited among its own nationals as well as the Shiite communities in neighbouring Afghanistan and Pakistan since Syria's conflict broke out in March 2011.

The U.S. military confirmed that one of its F-18 Super Hornets shot down a Syrian jet that had dropped bombs near the U.S. partner forces SDF.

It also raises questions about how U.S. President Donald Trump's administration, which already said it put Iran "on notice" for its ballistic missile tests, will respond.

Tourjman went on to say that the strikes also carried a message to the sponsors of terrorism, particularly the USA government which, on the one hand, claims it is fighting terrorism, and on the other hand sponsors ISIS militants.

Iranian Revolutionary Guard says it targeted ISIL bases in Deir Az Zor in retaliation for the June 7 attacks in Tehran.

State TV posted black and white aerial video on their website on Monday which they labelled as the moment of impact of the attack. Russia's top diplomat said that the United States should show respect Syria's territorial integrity and that any actions on the ground "should be coordinated with Damascus". The missiles, which were variously estimated to be between four and six in number, were reportedly launched against ISIS positions. As a result of the operation, at least 65 ISIS terrorists were killed and many others were wounded, according to the IRGC Quds Force.
