In campaign ads and election flyers, Republicans successfully tied the policies and beliefs of newcomer Ossoff to House minority leader Pelosi.

The response from some: It better be. Veteran GOP ad-maker Brad Todd says that's because the San Francisco congresswoman is the personification of the liberal values they can't stomach. After four special elections nationwide, Democrats still haven't won any seats.

Trump weighed in on the election early on Tuesday morning. "The House remains in play now".

On Thursday, Trump jumped into the political fray, taking a swipe at Pelosi and Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer in a tweet. "I certainly understand the attention from the press around the country".

During the campaign, Ossoff faced criticism for not living in GA06 (thus unable to vote for himself) as well as being linked to unpopular House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, who would again become Speaker if the Democrats manage to win a majority in 2018.

And for some, they point to questions about how their leaders, and Pelosi in particular, have fallen short in crafting an economic message that can counter Trump and yield election victories.

Rep. Cedric Richmond, the Chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus, who many have touted as a rising star in the party, attended the session, according to three Democrats who also attended. "It's time for some change".

Lujan said Tuesday's results show Democrats have the momentum to flip the 24 seats they need to reclaim control.

CROWLEY: Typically they don't go and pick folks in districts where they think they're going to lose that seat to a Democrat. "Democrats from coast to coast threw everything they had at this race, and Karen would not be defeated", House Speaker Paul Ryan said in a statement.

"It was very important to them to have someone who had relationships in the community, someone with a track record", said Handel about constituents she spoke to.

Pelosi is a prolific fundraiser for her party, and a savvy legislator with few rivals on Capitol Hill when it comes to cutting the deals necessary to keep government in motion. Joe Cunningham, running for the House in SC, promised on Wednesday morning that he would not vote for Pelosi for Speaker if elected. Martin asked. Ossoff's response may reveal just why he lost the election - that and the fact that he couldn't even vote in the district he was running to represent because he wasn't a resident. "Montana, we, this kid, the man who ran against the gentleman who won would never have had not one iota of movement had changes not been happening".

In the Ossoff race, even though the 30-year-old documentary filmmaker and former congressional staffer ended up running a more centrist and not Trump-centric campaign, Republicans were able to zero in on the more than $23 million in donations Ossoff raised, largely from liberal enclaves like California and NY, and make an easy connection to Pelosi.

"She's easy to demonize".

"There are more than 70 districts more favorable to Democrats than this deep-red district, and Ossoff's close margin demonstrates the potential for us to compete deep into the battlefield", said Rep.
