Qatari ambassador criticises UAE and Saudi in 9/11-focussed op-ed

And Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has expressed support for Qatar, urging a swift end to the political dispute with Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the UAE, among others.

The foreign minister said the economic impact on Qatar had so far proved to be minimal, but added: "We are not claiming we are living in a ideal condition".

Since the Qatari crisis started, Turkey has openly voiced support to Qatar, one of its major trade partners and a main source of investment, while criticizing the Saudi-led blockade on Doha as inhumane.

The countries have accused Qatar of supporting terrorism, a charge that Doha strongly denies.

According to al-Thani, Qatar has not received any demands from the Gulf States or any other countries.

Later, a number of other countries also announced about severing diplomatic relations with Qatar. Yesterday, the state-run Qatar News Agency instructed a law firm to file a formal complaint with Ofcom, Britain's telecommunications regulator, against the Saudi-owned Al-Arabiya news channel and Sky News Arabia for their coverage of Qatar. Saudi, Emirati, and Bahraini families are being forcibly recalled by their governments today, despite being invited to stay by the government of Qatar.

The chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff said on Monday that military operations against Islamic State from Qatar were continuing while acknowledging some friction.

But he said there could be long-term benefits for the QFC and Qatar, as companies which had previously served Qatar from bases in neighbouring countries now had no option but to establish offices in Doha. Al Jazeera is Qatar's affairs, Qatari foreign policy on regional issues is Qatar's affairs.

Turkey is one of Qatar's strongest allies.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu held talks late Friday with Saudi Arabia's King Salman about the crisis engulfing Qatar.
