Unlock protected sectors of Indian economy: USA congressmen to Trump

The decision to launch the startup hub was taken during Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa's visit to India in January this year. Modi!. Modi stepped out of his vehicle and walked over to the crowd across the road smiling nd waving at them, PTI reported.

Calling the period of Emergency a "dark phase" in India, PM Modi said: "Those who love democracy can never forget the dark night of June 25, 1975, when the entire nation turned into a prison, all voices of dissent were muzzled, where senior leaders like Jayaprakash Narayan were imprisoned".

Shalabh Kumar, founder of the Republican Hindu Coalition (RHC), said the meeting will be a platform for the two leaders to get to know each other and set the pace for strengthening Indo-US ties.

Modi, in his reply to Trump, thanked him for the "warm personal welcome" and said he was "greatly" looking forward to the meeting and discussions tomorrow at the White House.

However, Monday's meeting comes under the shadow of Trump's efforts for stricter norms for issuance of H1-B visas, a key issue for Indian IT companies operating in the United States, and Washington pulling out of the Paris climate agreement on which both Modi and Obama worked hard.

President Trump had called for the H-1B visa system to be reformed to reduce trade deficit with India and recently complained that India had negotiated for a huge aid during the Paris Talks.

The working dinner that Trump is hosting for Modi is the first of its kind under the current U.S. administration. He would also be addressing the Indian community the following day in Tel Aviv. "Both leaders are on the same page", Kumar said.

"During the meeting, the President and the Prime Minister will discuss ongoing cooperation, including counter-terrorism, defence partnership in the Indo-Pacific region, global cooperation, burden-sharing, trade, law enforcement, and energy", Spicer had said. "And I think that will come through in the visit on Monday", the official said. Indian Ambassador to US Navtej Sarna and Charge de Affairs of US Embassy Marykay Loss Carlson received Mr Modi at the Andrew's Air Force Base.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said ahead of Modi's visit to Israel: "Relations between Israel and India have been growing in recent years in an unprecedented way".
