Health care must be resolved

The Pennsylvania insurance commissioner has publically called her state senator's health care stance "irresponsible and frightening". President Trump has even said, "The best thing we can do politically speaking is let Obamacare explode". That measure's fate was uncertain after the CBO predicted that under it 15 million people would lose health insurance in 2018, with the number growing to 22 million as a result of cuts to the Medicaid program for the poor and disabled that would take place in 2025.

Minnesota Department of Human Services Commissioner Emily Piper said the bill would affect Minnesotans in particular by removing federal funding from MinnesotaCare and by not giving Minnesota credit for the reforms it has made to Medicaid.

In a March statement, Rep. Rodney Davis (R-IL) said the AHCA would fix a lot of problems he sees in Obamacare. But I spoke with a range of experts about the idea when the idea first came into fashion, and they were skeptical of the idea that the status quo could float along until a new political compromise arrived. "At the top of the list should be ensuring cost sharing payments are permanent, which will protect health care for millions". Compassionate nonjudgmental care for all, just like that delivered by a school nurse, should be the goal of improving and expanding our health care system.

Grass-roots action protesting plans to "repeal and replace" the Affordable Care Act continued to spread as June ended, despite the Republican-controlled Congress's inability to pass new punitive legislation. The fact that our elected leaders are instead trying to jam it through with whatever buyouts and deals will get them to the bare minimum of 50 votes, strongly suggests the bill is not good for us.

Going back even further, the AHCA is even more unpopular than former President Bill Clinton's health care plan, the previous record-holder for the most controversial legislation since 1990.

If the bill is enacted, the CBO estimates that by 2026, an estimated 23 million people now with health insurance will lose coverage.

Another Minneapolis resident, Tina Webb, said the Medical Assistance program also helped her.

Piper said greater Minnesota faces special concerns about Hosue and Senate bills.

Since the Affordable Care Act (ACA) was implemented, no state in the country has benefited more from the ACA than Kentucky. There are three insurance companies that sell on the exchange: PacificSource, Montana Health Co-op and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Montana.

Ideally, the way to remedy the health care issues facing the nation would not involve completely repealing the ACA - but rather to keep what works about it and amend other portions of it, said Casey.
