Obama's DOJ let Russian lawyer into United States before Trump meeting

The president and his defenders insist that nothing his son did was illegal or evidence of collusion, and Trump said his fans around the country remain firmly behind him.

'But the real way I feel comfortable inviting him is ever since President Trump was elected it seems like every conversation that has come from somebody in the family, where there's been some sort of issue, they've seemed always to be very, very open, ' Grassley said. On Tuesday, Trump Jr. tweeted out emails with British publicist Rob Goldstone that showed how the meeting was set up.

Grassley, Iowa's senior Republican senator, serves as chairman of the judiciary committee - one of several committees conducting investigations into possible coordination between the Trump campaign and Russian government to influence the 2016 presidential election.

Rinat Akhmetshin told AP news agency he went to the meeting at which Donald Trump Jr was promised Kremlin-linked material about Hillary Clinton.

NBC said some US officials suspect the former intelligence officer, who was identified as a Russian-American lobbyist, has ongoing ties to Russian intelligence. He wouldn't say what he wants to hear from Trump Jr., but said members aren't restricted "from asking anything they want to ask".

"It's a demanding job that requires a keen understanding of the law, sound management skills, calm under significant pressure and a level head", Grassley said. Murphy said he does not know what the legal standard ultimately will be after Kushner did not report three meetings with Russians on his disclosure form, but it's clear when the forms are completed, "if you don't provide full disclosure, you're committing a crime". He's a USA citizen. "I urge my colleagues across the aisle to join us in sending a clear message that Congress will not stand for this proposal to undermine USA national security", Lieu said in a statement.

Trump was asked July 12 in a Reuters interview whether he had been told about the meeting, which was also attended by his son-in-law Jared Kushner and Paul Manafort, Trump's campaign manager at the time. He was told the Russian government had information that could "incriminate" Clinton and her dealings with Russia. The bank, a key arm of the Russian government, is under tough USA sanctions.

Sekulow said the president was not being investigated by Mueller.

"I think from a practical standpoint most people would've taken that meeting". The White House says the president is opposed to ceding executive authority over foreign policy to Congress. The Trump administration then fired Bharara.
