First image from Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One

Even though Steven Spielberg's big screen adaptation of Ernest Cline's Ready Player One isn't set to open until March of next year, we have our first official look at the movie.

"Oology" is the study of eggs - a little in-joke about Easter eggs - and this image actually has a lot of them.

Released via Entertainment Weekly, the pic shows Tye Sheridan (X-Men: Apocalypse) as Wade Watts/Parzifal using his Cyclops VR visor and haptic gloves to disappear into a virtual reality world populated by movies, cartoons, comics and TV shows from the 1980s in order to escape life in 2045.

After all, we've seen plenty of directors (such as the Duffer Brothers of Stranger Things) pay homage to Spielberg's work, but it'll be a unique experience to see the legendary director delve into his own bag of tricks to make a movie that, in many ways, sums up his career. And so the race against the clock begins as the game could become locked away from its player or possibly made too expensive to play if acquired by the corporate IOI organization.

For fans of sci-fi movies that revolve around eighties pop-culture nostalgia, and who weren't satisfied by Guardians of the Galaxy, Steven Spielberg's upcoming Ready Player One may do the trick. So to have him directing, it's too ideal to even be possible. Wade is in his "hideout", which is an old van where he puts his most prized possessions. On the right, there's a blue lunchbox featuring He-Man and the Masters of the Universe and small stickers of Garfield and Garbage Pail Kids. As you'd expect, the story follows Watts as he tracks down all of the clues for the final game, along with some of online friends (played by T.J. Miller, Lena Waithe and Olivia Cooke).
