"We have been informed of a serious injury to a SAG-AFTRA member on the set of "The Walking Dead" and are investigating the situation", the union said in a statement.

According to reports, Bernecker and Dwight actor Austin Amelio were filming a scene on a balcony when the accident occurred.

AMC said in a statement circulated among USA media outlets that it was temporarily shutting down production of the hit show, which is filmed in Georgia.

John Bernecker, a stunt performer for the popular AMC television series "The Walking Dead", died Friday after a fall on the show's set in Georgia.

The AMC network confirmed "John Bernecker's family has decided that he will be removed from life support following organ donation".

"The Walking Dead" showrunner Scott Gimple remembered Bernecker for his contributions in the industry.

"The production team of "#The Walking Dead" said they are "deeply saddened" by the loss of a family member, while AMC extended their thoughts and prayers to Bernecker's love ones in this hard time.

An assistant director told police the stuntman missed a safety cushion "by inches" and tried to break his fall by grabbing a railing after he slipped, celebrity news website TMZ reported. "He was immediately transported to an Atlanta hospital and we have temporarily shut down production".

Production on Season 8 of the show was halted after the accident. Ross Marquand, who played as Aaron in "The Walking Dead", sent his love to Bernecker's family and colleagues in this trying time.

'Love, respect, and condolences to johns family, and friends. Bernecker's credits include "The Fate of the Furious", "Black Panther", "Escape Plan 2: Hades" and "Logan".
