Omega Underground first broke the news of Jackman's involvement in the Lion King remake, citing an insider on the project who confirmed he would be voicing the notorious villain Scar. He replaces original voice Jeremy Irons.

Disney also teased its live action remake of its animated classic Dumbo, which has been given a March 29, 2019 release date. This looks like another Disney blockbuster after huge successes of Jungle Book and The Beauty and the Beast. Of course, there's also the fact that Jackman has the musical chops to make this work and his intensity and strong, commanding voice means that he's pretty much the ideal choice to play the villain. It ended with the iconic moment in which Rafiki introduces an adorable young Simba on Pride Rock, as Elton Johns "Circle of Life" is played.

It's plausible that Jackman could really be the voice of Scar, and his team is trying to keep it under wraps until there is an official announcement. Mufasa will be voiced yet again by the one and only James Earl Jones, who could simply not be replaced.

Jackman has completed his tenure as Wolverine in the X-Men franchise, so there's every possibility that he may be seeking a new franchise to hang his hat on. Alas with what Jackman's representatives have said, it seems there's zero room for Jackman being involved.

If you thought The Jungle Book had some kind of magical realism going on, just wait until you see what's in store for The Lion King.

At this year's D23 Expo, there's been a flurry of information coming out for Disney's slate of films. Note: Disney has not stated when and if it will release this first look at the film.
