Disney Announces Oculus Exclusive 'Marvel: Powers United VR'

Disney Announces Oculus Exclusive 'Marvel: Powers United VR'

Aside from the allure of Marvel characters themselves, the multiplayer aspect of the game has the potential to help it really stand out.

Marvel Powers United VR is a new virtual reality project in the works for Oculus VR. Quite naturally, a bunch of VR enthusiasts were not pleased with the news about the game being exclusive to the Oculus VR platform.

The announcement trailer confirmed Captain Marvel, Rocket Raccoon, and The Hulk as playable characters, though there will be over a dozen available by the time the game launches in 2018.

Interestingly, it also seems like players will have access to special abilities unique to the character they are playing. The Oculus-exclusive game does not now have a release date, but we'll have hands-on impressions of the title soon! One time you may get the Kree and Ronan The Accuser as a boss; another time you'll get something totally different. And finally as Captain Marvel, well, you'll get to shoot energy from your hands.

Some popular video game personas are also being incorporated into the game to help build up some hype around the VR product with the widely popular Markiplier showing off the game during the reveal. They mention over on the official website that there will be "smart" "locomotion" implemented into the game, so you won't just teleport around. The good thing, however, is that it will make great use of Oculus' Touch controllers. Marvel are now taking that idea a step further with the first full VR videogame from Marvel - Marvel Powers United VR.
