Emily Blunt Showers D23 with Sugar in Mary Poppins 2 Panel Video

Avengers, Mary Poppins and Luke Skywalker brought star power to Walt Disney Co's annual D23 fan convention on Sunday, as the studio drummed up excitement for upcoming films including a live-action "Lion King", "Aladdin" and "Dumbo".

The film also stars Lin-Manuel Miranda as lamplighter Jack, Meryl Streep as Mary's eccentric cousin Topsy, and Angela Lansbury as the Balloon Lady. "This is living in that world with a foot in the past and a foot in the future and telling that story", he said.

Mary Poppins Returns won't be released in cinemas until Christmas Day 2018, but Disney has released a new sneak peek at the "Practically Perfect" Blunt (below), so stand on by, down a spoonful of sugar and start setting your plans for December of next year.

Director Rob Marshall admitted, "It's a dream cast", Marshall said.

But the English actress is doing her best to play down comparisons with Julie Andrews, who portrayed the iconic nanny in the classic 1964 film.

"No one is ever going to out-Julie Julie Andrews". "I think she is a little more acerbic and odd and vain and weird in the books".

"I had to do my own version of her", Blunt said.

"We both and the entire company and the creative time feel very protective of the original film because we love it so much", Marshall said. A sequel to "The Force Awakens", "The Last Jedi" picks up with that film's near-literal cliffhanger when Daisy Ridley's Rey and Mark Hamill's Luke Skywalker meet.

"Pre "High School Musical" Disney Channel", Johnson added. She shows up to help out after a family tragedy.

The teaser was super-well received by those lucky enough to see it-and we can't wait to see the full thing ourselves.

Mum's the word on the other "Star Wars" film in the works - the Han Solo spinoff film that recently got a galactic shake-up when deep into production co-directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were replaced with Ron Howard. Massoud will play the title role with Scott as Princess Jasmine, according to Deadline coverage from Disney's D23 Expo.
