Indu Sarkar row: Madhur Bhandarkar's security beefed up after protests

Actress Kirti Kulhari Friday expressed her disappointment over Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for making 12 cuts and adding two disclaimers in her forthcoming film Indu Sarkar. After cancelling his press conference Madhur Bhandarkar tweeted along with a video to Rahul Gandhi's office by saying, "Dear @OfficeOfRG after Pune I have 2 cancels today's PressCon at Nagpur.Do you approve of this hooliganism? Can I have my freedom of expression?"

Madhur has also said that he has not made Indu Sarkar to malign the image of Congress leaders otherwise he would have made a documentary.

Insisting that people were reacting on a "3-minute-long trailer", Bhandarkar said the film is "70% fictional".

"Congress staff hv barged in the Resort lobby & created ruckus, me & staff are stranded like hostages in resort home".

The film, which is set against the backdrop of the Emergency, has run into controversies. Can I have my Freedom of Expression? My film is an emotional journey. I don't understand the demand that they (the Congress) want to watch the movie before its release.

"Indu Sarkar" is primarily based on a 21-month lengthy interval, from 1975 to 1977, when the then key minister Indira Gandhi unilaterally had a state of emergency declared throughout the state.

Congress city unit president Ramesh Bagwe and activist Ramesh Iyer were present with a large number of party workers, sitting cross-legged in the lobby and shouting slogans of "Indira Gandhi Amar Rahe" and "We strongly condemn Bhandarkar". Mr. Agnihotri, after the protest, said, "Congress workers will not allow Mr. Bhandarkar to promote his film anywhere across the country it may assassinate the character of the Party's icon Indira Gandhi". This comes amidst the current issue around his film and the Indian Youth Congress protesting against it.

Patil further said the Chief Minister should assure this so that law and order situation post the release of the movie is maintained.
