Irate youths attack SEMA rescue team in Maiduguri

According to TheCable, two other bombers were said to have struck in different parts of the ancient city, but details are still sketchy.

Last month, month, the Army successfully repelled an attack by Boko Haram insurgents in Maiduguri.

Boko Haram, which is suspected to be responsible for Monday's attacks, had been blamed for the deaths of more than 20,000 people and displacment of 2.3 million others in Nigeria since their insurgency started in 2009.

"You better leave, we do not need your assistance".

The incident took place when the bomber forced her way to a mosque in Maiduguri city early Monday, Police Commissioner, Damian Chukwu said while confirming the incident.

The youths, armed with club and sticks, smashed one of SEMA vehicles and prevented the team from carrying out its mission. The mosque was being guarded by civilian JTF (joint task force militia) during prayers.

The attack occurred at about 5:00 AM, a witness, Malam Muhammad Grema told the News Agency of Nigeria.

It was gathered that the attackers cross the trenches in an attempt to enter the town at about 10:15 pm on Sunday.

Soldiers guarding the trenches shot the women as a result of which the explosive strapped to their bodies detonated, blowing them to pieces.

However, the Sun newspaper is reporting that the attack was carried out by one female bomber.

Three other female suicide bombers were located in Maiduguri at about the same time, said Satomi.
