Naz Baloch divorces PTI to join PPP

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Naz Baloch on Sunday announced her joining the Pakistan Peoples Party, alleging that the party had deviated from its "principled" stand.

She said, "On a number of occasions, I requested him to reconsider his policy about Karachi, but he distanced himself from true workers", she said.

"I feel as if I have come home again", Baloch told reporters. "I have always called his [Imran's] attention towards giving more time to Sindh especially Karachi", she said.

PTI's Shafqat Mehmood, in a press conference, said that Naz Baloch's departure to PPP made no difference to his party as she did not hold any office and was just a party worker there.

"I performed my responsibilities in PTI under the leadership of Imran Khan". She also said that PTI Chief Imran Khan is not the leader of the youths in the country.

Brushing aside the criticism of being an "opportunist", she claimed that she was getting the election ticket from PTI on a silver platter as she was on of the few prominent faces in Karachi.

In terms of decisions within the party she said, "Male chauvinism is very open, women are not heard nor are in the decision making posts".

Baloch said that she had rendered countless services for protest sit-in of the party in the past but at the moment she was not in the mood of doing mud-slinging on her parent political party. Baloch contested the 2013 general election from the NA-240 constituency as a PTI candidate.

Speaking on the occasion, Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah welcomed Naz Baloch into the PPP saying that with her inclusion, the party would be further strengthened. "Women do not have the same access or representation in the decision-making committee", she said.

Taking aim at the appointment of the same group of people at key party positions in the metropolis, she said it is no surprise that the party's support has reduced in the city.
