New Barcelona coach Valverde relieved not facing Messi

New Barcelona coach Valverde relieved not facing Messi

"I came here to play with Marco Verratti, that's the message I want him to get".

"A player who can play in all three positions would be fantastic, because playing in that position means you're always fighting for game time so the more positions you can play in, the more opportunities you'll have".

Ernesto Valverde had this to say at a recent press conference..."They (Rakitic and Gomes) are my players and I consider them in my plans".

PSG have so far refused to open negotiations with the Spanish giant and as things stand the midfielder looks set to remain at the Parc des Princes.

Valverde was asked if he would be playing Messi in a more withdrawn role this season and added: "Messi will go on dictating the way we play. I am really happy with them and the idea of getting to know them better".

"I have nearly the best squad possible anyway".

"It's hard because we have an incredible team".

Sporting director, Fernandez also confirmed Barca will be pursuing transfers up until the very last minute.

"If an opportunity arises, we'll try to take it, but it's not easy to buy a player who has a contract with an important club".

With Barcelona looking forward to an eventful summer transfer window having already started with their business, the future of Croatian midfield maestro Ivan Rakitic has been a hot topic for discussion.

Reports had also suggested Barca were preparing to include Gomes or Rakitic in any deal.

The midfielder has been a big hit at White Hart Lane since arriving from MK Dons two years ago and is now billed as one of England's best players.

He replied: "I don't think that is going to happen".
