One Year Old Found Dead Inside Hot Unlocked Car

Investigators are conducting an autopsy to determine his cause of death. The child was found unconscious inside of his father's BMW.

A police spokeswoman told the newspaper that it wasn't clear how the child got into the auto. A fire rescue team transported the 1-year-old to an area hospital, where he died a short time later.

Dani Moschella, public information officer for Delray Beach Police, said the child was unconscious when officers arrived and discovered the front doors of the auto were unlocked. Temperatures in Delray Beach reached 90 degrees on Saturday. Authorities say the toddler was playing with other kids before entering the auto, according to WPTV. Police now want to know how this could happen.

He was reportedly in the vehicle for up to two hours.

Experts say children's body temperature rises up to five times faster than adults.

A vehicle sitting outside in the Florida heat can cause the auto to reach 150 degrees, police explained.

The public information officer stressed the importance of parents and caregivers making sure vehicles are locked and the keys are inaccessible to children.

At the little boy's house Saturday evening, the cars of family members and friends lined the street and several groups of people stood outside speaking in hushed tones.

"It's tragic", said Carly Saint Saveur, the child's uncle.

Cops, who responded to the scene in the Rainberry Woods neighborhood, say Khayden had been playing with other kids at around 3:20 p.m.
