PayPal available as payment method within Samsung Pay

Samsung Electronics Co. said Monday it has clinched a strategic partnership with USA online payment service provider PayPal for an expansion of its mobile payment services. To start with, PayPal will be available as a payment method in the United States first, but it will expand to other countries in the future.

PayPal has inked a partnership with Samsung's mobile wallet Samsung Pay that will help expand PayPal's presence in brick-and-mortar stores. "As India's biggest, most-trusted brand of mobile phones, Samsung remains committed to a digitally empowered economy and will continue to create meaningful innovations that will transform lives".

Announcing the new option, Samsung says: "Customers will be able to use their Samsung Pay to access and use their PayPal wallet, letting them make a payment in millions of stores". A year ago alone, PayPal processed $102 billion in mobile payment volume and two billion mobile payment transactions.

The move will allow Samsung's mobile payment platform Samsung Pay to be linked to PayPal accounts, which paves the way for Samsung to expand its consumer base, according to Samsung. By making it completely seamless to accept digital wallets like Samsung Pay, we're continuing to break down the barriers to checkout for our merchants. In 2014, we worked with Samsung to enable mobile payments with just a fingerprint. This next phase of our relationship combines our reach and leadership in technology and mobile commerce, bringing more choices and functionality to our mutual customers.
