Russian Federation demands immediate return of diplomatic property from US

"We have already noted that we deem it absolutely unacceptable to set any conditions for the return of the diplomatic property".

The issue of the closure of the two Russian compounds is on the agenda again in Washington on Monday, with a meeting between U.S. Undersecretary of State Thomas Shannon and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov.

Earlier on Friday, the Russian Foreign Ministry asserted that the country was prepared to banish American diplomats if the USA does not undo its decision to expel 35 Russian diplomats and block access to Russian diplomatic estates.

After Russia was seized in 2016 USA presidential elections over Moscow's alleged interference by the former President Obama. The Obama administration announced its retaliation for Russian efforts to interfere with the United States presidential election, ordering sweeping new sanctions that included the expulsion of 35 Russians.

"We have repeatedly said that we think any conditions are unacceptable".

Apparently alluding to Trump, Mr Peskov said he hoped the U.S. would be able to show some "political wisdom". "We believe that it must be returned without any preconditions, without any talks, because what is happening de facto and de jure is a flagrant violation of global law". "Kremlin, as it is, does not really participate but as you know this issue was raised by President [Vladimir] Putin during his G20 meeting with President Trump in a quite straightforward manner".

President Trump has continued to cast doubt on Russian interference in the election, saying he wants to build closer ties with Russia.

CNN has reached out to the White House for comment.

"We still hope that our American colleagues will demonstrate a certain political wisdom and political will", he remarked during a conference call.

Asked what the Kremlin would do if nothing comes out of Monday's meeting, Peskov said: "Let's not jump ahead, the situation is quite sensitive and - let's be straight - it's quite hard".
