She said she would be "taken aback" if Mr Trump said a similar thing to her.

Trump and first lady Melania Trump were meeting with newly elected French President Emmanuel Macron and French first lady Brigitte Macron.

The Republican's latest comments come after he made has made a series of remarks which some people have interpreted as sexist.

The Justice Department's public affairs office had not responded to a request for more information about Trump's allegation that Lynch was involved.

At a joint press conference with Macron, Trump himself seemed to crack the door open ever so slightly to the possibility of that the USA might rejoin the agreement at some point.

And the President's contention that the lawyer who met his son, Natalia Veselnitskaya, was not a Russian government lawyer ignored the email chain that showed Trump Jr was told that a "Russian government attorney" would meet him as part of an attempt to help his father's campaign. "He told me that he would try to find a solution in the coming months", Macron told the French weekly Le Journal du Dimanche on Sunday.
