Ander Herrera Shoots Down Barcelona Transfer Rumors

The Real Madrid forward was linked with a big-money move to Manchester United, as club manager Jose Mourinho had identified the 24-year-old as a potential replacement for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who was released by the Old Trafford outfit this summer.

Sources close to the English club have told ESPN FC that they expect Madrid to make a new offer for De Gea in the coming weeks, although Blancos coach Zinedine Zidane reportedly has faith in his current No. 1 Keylor Navas.

De Gea, meanwhile, was on the verge of making the opposite move to Real Madrid in the summer of 2015 before the transfer collapsed on deadline day after paperwork failed to arrive at La Liga headquarters in time.

His compatriot Alvaro Morata had been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer before Jose Mourinho made a decision to bring in Romelu Lukaku instead in a £75m deal with Everton.

"There is nothing certain about Barcelona because I am very happy at United", he said after United's 5-2 win over LA Galaxy. "I prefer to have him with me, so I will do everything possible to have him here".

"Madrid are the most powerful team of the moment", Herrera suggested.

Ander Herrera and the rest of his United teammates will next take on Real Salt Lake in another global friendly Monday night.

"I think he's going to stay". Of course, playing against Madrid is a good test for us.

"It's a shame he's not with us but he's a top striker and will do well wherever he plays".
