Van Dijk Star Ready to Sign for Liverpool by Doing This

Arsenal are preparing a £45 million bid for Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk, according to the Express.

The 26-year-old Netherlands worldwide central defender, who is now working his way back to full fitness after suffering a season-ending foot injury against Leicester in January, has been heavily linked with a move away from St Mary's this summer.

Liverpool were favourites to sign the 26-year-old but a transfer mishap left the Reds with egg on their faces as they were forced to apologise to the Saints for an illegal approach and risked the wrath of the Premier League as a result.

The Gunners will be fully focused on the English Premier League having failed to qualify for next season's Champions League.

The £45m figure is a huge increase on the £12m the Gunners could have paid for van Dijk two years ago, when they stepped back and allowed him to go to Southampton.

Other sides including Chelsea and Arsenal have been paired with an interest, but it still looks as though Liverpool lead the race, and their previously strong relationship with Southampton could be important.

However the London club could be set to lose Alexis Sanchez with the unhappy star linked with Paris Saint Germain, Bayern Munich and Manchester City in recent weeks.
