'Overwatch' Summer Games 2017 Start: Blizzard announces release date for next event

As confirmed by Blizzard, skins from Summer Games 2016 will be available for purchase. Game Director Jeff Kaplan shared the details in a video posted to YouTube.

They were added with the recent Doomfist update (aka, patch 1.13), which has hit all platforms, yet Lucioball isn't live yet and nor is a 2017 version of the Summer Games (the event that contained Lucioball last year).

As for new Skins, Daily Express has suggested that "this could be the first event where we see old Overwatch skins being re-released by Blizzard".

Even before the Summer Games were confirmed, players who mined the PTR changes were able to find assets that hinted towards Lucioball. Additionally, there will be new skins for various characters. The amount of duplicates from crates has been greatly reduced, which should give a greater opportunity to get desired skins from last year and this year.

While some players considered that these may have been leftover achievements from last year's reveal of Lucioball, the fact that none of them have been unlocked by anybody at all yet should enough to convince doubters otherwise. The ability to "boop" enemy players has been removed, and Lucio's ultimate ability no longer pulls the ball toward the player, but instead increases Lúcio's movement speed and reduces the cooldown on his "boop".

What should be fun is the addition of a competitive Lucioball mode, which will run for three weeks. That means all the things you liked about a year ago (sports-themed skins, Rocket League-inspired Lúcioball) plus new features like new and discounted skins, a new stadium and competitive Lúcioball!

What do you think of the return of the Overwatch Summer Games?
