Trump administration sends conflicting signals on Russian Federation sanctions

The Washington Post, citing multiple people with knowledge of the situation, said "the original plan in response to the New York Times' reporting was to issue a truthful statement ahead of the story, but then Trump personally made a decision to have the statement say Trump Jr. had met with the lawyer, Natalia Veselnitskaya, to discuss adoption of Russian children by people in the U.S". Sekulow issued a one-sentence statement in response to a list of detailed questions from the Post.

Trump has spent almost every weekend of his presidency visiting various properties he owns and leases, including Bedminster.

Jay Sekulow, an attorney for the President, issued a statement, saying, "Apart from being of no effect, the characterizations are misinformed, inaccurate, and not pertinent".

"I can't believe any worthwhile prosecutor can ignore this", Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) said. Russia denies any interference, and Trump has denied collusion with Russia. The president applauded his son's "transparency" after he released the email exchanges on July 11.

"Secret Service has reportedly established a secure perimeter around Trump's own private cottage at the club for when he visits, which has been four times so far".

Former FBI director Robert Mueller is probing, in his capacity as special counsel, the Russian Federation connection independently of the Senate panels.

Detective Stephen Loomis, president of the Cleveland Police Patrolmen's Association, a union representing Cleveland's rank-and-file police officers, told CNN there is "unwavering" support for Trump from law enforcement agencies across the country.

The Washington Post first reported that President Trump had himself dictated the statement his son issued about the meeting with lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya. "I think the president accepts that". Trump himself brought up the Russian Federation investigation as a reason for firing Comey, and the president has recently criticized Attorney General Jeff Sessions-who was a campaign surrogate-for recusing himself from matters related to Russian Federation. He wanted the statement to say that the meeting had been initiated by the Russian lawyer and primarily was about her pet issue - the adoption of Russian children.

"People have no idea the beauty of the White House". If there's nothing there, why does Trump keep acting as if there is? In a forward cabin, President Trump was busy working on his son's statement, according to people with knowledge of events.

The article added that Trump dictated the statement while flying back to Washington from the G20 summit in Hamburg. It was four sentences long, describing the encounter as a "short, introductory meeting". "I'm assuming that was between Mr. Donald Trump Jr., between Don Jr. and his lawyer".

Some lawyers for the president and for Kushner were surprised and frustrated, advisers later learned.
