Liverpool FC reject second Barcelona bid for Coutinho

Coutinho has scored 34 goals and provided 29 assists for Liverpool since joining in 2013 but former Barcelona coach Cesar Luis Menotti has warned the club's supporters against believing he will be the new Neymar.

"Ultimately if he wants to go he will go, as much as the club won't want him to".

Reports in the United Kingdom claim this is a show of strength from Liverpool, with Jurgen Klopp, on more than one occasion, insisting Coutinho would not be sold, for any price.

The Liverpool hierarchy won't want to undermine Klopp and the manager has been pretty public with his views on Coutinho.

Barcelona's interest in Coutinho has been reported for the last few transfer windows and whilst it may not happen this window it appears a matter of time before he finally makes the move. But if you don't take the money you end up without the player if you don't let them leave.

Barcelona are awash with funds after selling Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain for a world-record transfer fee of €222 million.

The speculation linking Liverpool's Philippe Coutinho with a move to Barcelona has been heightened by his selection as a Pro Evolution Soccer cover star.

The 25-year-old signed a five-year contract at Anfield back in January, with Liverpool ensuring no release clause was inserted in the new deal. Barcelona will come back, they are not just one offs, and they usually get their way.

Fans are wondering if they will see Coutinho turn out in red again - the 25-year-old is now nursing a back injury and will miss their Premier League opener with Watford. "But a transfer is also a question of timing".

But he was named in Liverpool's Champions League squad for the qualifier against Hoffenheim, of which the first leg is in Germany on Tuesday.
