Overwatch is finally getting a Deathmatch mode

Overwatch is finally getting a Deathmatch mode

You aren't playing to push a payload, you're looking to grab as many kills as you can, as fast as you can.

Overwatch's Deathmatch game modes will go live on the PTR today, August 10, and will enter onto the live servers at a later date.

Coming "soon" to the Overwatch Arcade will be a pair of Deathmatch modes (free for all, and team). Then the new Deathmatch mode might be for you.

DM and TDM, much like any other game that features the mode, requires players or teams to reach a designated number of kills in order to win the game. Kaplan, however, said the Arcade mode - which is all about changing up the Overwatch formula in fun ways - is a ideal course of action to introduce something like deathmatch. The mode will be played primarily on modified versions of Arena maps and Capture the Flag maps.

Also, important heads-up for loot seekers: so long as you score in the top half of players (top four, in the case of free-for-all), you'll get a "win" credit toward your Arcade loot boxes.

The first deathmatch mode is called "free-for-all", which will pit seven individuals against each other in a race to see who can rack up 20 eliminations first. Plus, the aforementioned Château Guillard has not only been teased as having "great gameplay" thanks to lots of "jump pads" and "open areas" for Pharah to use for flight, and "tight Reaper corridors", but also its story and artwork is engaging as well, for it was originally home to Amélie Lacroix (AKA Widowmaker).

Make sure to check out the full video above for a walkthrough of the new mode by Blizzard's Jeff Kaplan.

It seems likely that this new build will take a while to test and will likely launch sometime after the end of the Overwatch Summer Games.
