Rumours of a new 'How I Met Your Mother' spin-off surface

She says that Fox is looking for new writers, and whoever gets the job will "be starting from scratch" on the project, meaning nothing from the various other pitches that have happened over the years will be retained. Deadline notes the new series, now looking for writers, could arrive next season. Fox chairman Dana Walden revealed to Deadline a new How I Met Your Mother spinoff is in the works right now, but it might not be called How I Met Your Father.

Twentieth Century Fox first attempted to make a spinoff series in 2013, a couple of months after the original series concluded.

In what is seemingly becoming an nearly annual story at this point, 20th Century Fox TV is once again trying to make a spinoff to How I Met Your Mother a reality. It?s one that's been slowly cooked. Since this one has a built-in audience of sorts, the idea is already appealing, but if the show can't turn into something unique that's worth putting on TV, then we might never see it come to fruition.

Clearly, these are still the early days, and writers still haven't been selected for the new spinoff, so don't get your hopes up too high just yet.

Carter Bays and Craig Thomas created "How I Met Your Mother" which ran for nine seasons from 2005 to 2014 on CBS.

So, while no concrete plans have been made, it definitely sounds like the wheels are in motion and that a new chapter in the world of Ted, Robin, Barney, Lily and Marshall may be in the near future.
