Opening-day woe for Leicester

Arsenal fans have expressed their love for centre-forward Olivier Giroud after he scored the winning goal in the last few minutes of their Premier League opening clash against Leicester City.

Aaron Ramsey equalised for Arsenal again in the 83rd minute before Giroud's crucial touch just two minutes later completed the quick turnaround at the Emirates.

Arsenal looked a beaten team when Leicester led 3-2 early in the second half after Vardy grabbed his second goal before the substitutions gave them new vigour in attack.

Flying wing-back Sead Kolasinac and Welbeck saw another couple of chances come and go as the Gunners pressed for a second, but it was Leicester who found the game's next goal against the run of play 29 minutes in. "We've been courageous to the end and thank God we won the game".

"Obviously for the neutral it would've been a great start, just watching it from the outside", the former Manchester United striker said. "There were hard moments when we were down and we managed to get out of that and it's great to see".

Arsenal shipped three goals but were without arguably three of their first-choice defenders as Per Mertesacker, Laurent Koscielny and Shkodran Mustafi all sat out due to a combination of fitness and suspension.

"That's what we're aiming to do", he added.

Giroud then sent the previously despondent Arsenal fans wild when he headed the 85th minute victor from a corner, Leicester keeper Kasper Schmeichel only managing to turn the ball onto the underside of the bar before it bounced over the line.

Craig Shakespeare's side boasted numerous players, and characteristics, that saw them shock the world to win the title in 2015/16. Shinji Okazaki scored another header to make it 1-1 three minutes later, as the Japanese forward latched on to a Harry Maguire flick-on from Marc Albrighton's cross.

"He did very well on the left when we moved him".
