Sharad Yadav removed as JD (U) party leader in Rajya Sabha

Asked if the party will join the Modi cabinet, a JD (U) leader said such a decision would be natural. "He has just been replaced with RCP Singh [as party leader in the Rajya Sabha]".

August 12: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav on Saturday asserted that his former friend and ally Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar does not belong to Janata Dal United (JD (U)) anymore.

Meanwhile, Yadav said that he had sent party leader Ali Anwar, who has been suspended from the membership of the parliamentary party, to the meeting of Opposition parties on Saturday.

Differences between Mr. Kumar and Mr. Yadav surfaced after the former snapped ties with the Congress and the RJD, and allied with the BJP to form a government in Bihar last month. "This was against the party", JD (U) general secretary K.C. Tyagi told ANI.

Earlier, before commencing his three-day direct dialogue with the people of Bihar on Thursday, Yadav had said that Kumar's alliance with the BJP was "a betrayal of the trust of 11 crore people of Bihar". "Thank you for your support Sharad ji", the Congress Rajya Sabha member tweeted after his victory, in reply to Yadav's tweet congratulating him for a victory "in spite of toughest hurdles".

"I am not afraid of any one to speak the truth and stand by my principles", he said in reference to his fight against Emergency imposed by Indira Gandhi in the mid 70s, when he was a student leader close to Jayaprakash Narayan, who led the movement that ousted Indira Gandhi from power for the first time in 1977.

"Nitish Kumar went against the mandate".
