Solapur boy suspected of playing Blue Whale game saved just in time

The incident happened on August 9. The challenge takes place on internet where depressed children are taken into the game and they are given one instruction per day to follow.

The boy was going to his class after the morning prayer assembly when he climbed the railing of a third-floor balcony in Chamali Devi Public School at Rajendra Nagar, Indore, and tried to jump off but his friends pulled him back, Additional Superintendent of Police Rupesh Kumar Dwivedi said, reports Indian Express. "Personnel from there then contacted his parents, who came to Bhigwan police station around 2 pm".

Mumbai/ Indore: A 14-year-old student, son of a Maharashtra businessman, had left his home in Solapur district on Thursday to complete the last task under the "Blue Whale" online suicide game.

"As soon as we were informed by our counterparts in Solapur, we intercepted the bus and rescued the boy, who was on his way to complete a task given by the Blue Whale Challenge game", a police officer said. The tasks get more extreme as the game progresses and eventually leads to the final task of committing suicide.

According to school principal Sangeeta Poddar, the boy was frightened after his thwarted suicide attempt and revealed to teachers that he had been playing the Blue Whale game for the past few days.

The Blue Whale game originated around 2015 in Russian Federation and spread via social media.

In a span of 24 hours, two schoolboys allegedly obsessed by the "Blue Whale" online suicide game have been saved in the nick of time.

Though the police were sceptical of the Blue Whale angle because the boy didn't have cuts on the body and that apparently there is no mobile app for the game, the victim admitted to having indulged in this morbid fascination. The macabre game originated from Russian Federation and has a series of tasks spread out for 50 days.
