Toilet Ek Prem Katha collects decent money

Akshay Kumar again does prove his credentials as one of the most bankable actor in the industry. Releasing on 3000 screens in India, the romantic satire celluloid raked Rs 14 crore (according to producer's estimation) on 1st day of its release.

Hollywood star Salma Hayek has expressed her best wishes to Bollywood star Akshay Kumar for his latest release Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. "He also said that the weekend collections of the film will be 'better" and on Tuesday, Independence Day, the business will get a 'boost'.

"Good luck to Akshay Kumar on Toilet: Ek Prem Katha out today!" Due to clash with 'Toilet Ek Prem Katha', the Hindi film received decent response on 8th day of its release. Set against the backdrop of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the movie also features Bhumi Pednekar and Anupam Kher.

The film which opened in the box office without any competition did well on the first day with 30-35% occupancy in the theatres during the morning show.

Until now, Singh Is Bliing remains as Akshay's biggest opener at Rs 20.67 crore followed by Housefull 3 (Rs 15.20 crore), Rowdy Rathore (Rs 15.10 crore) and Brothers (Rs15.02 crore). The film is not an usual concept for Bollywood, which makes the odds of the film doing well in the box office could be a concern.

Last week released SRK's Jab Harry Met Sejal failed to meet expectation.

Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar starrer "Toilet Ek Prem Katha" fight against the evil old-age tradition - open defecation in the rural area of the country.
