60 children die in a hospital, the lack of oxygen cause

If he can't take care of need of his constituency then how can he fulfill the responsibility of a state like Uttar Pradesh?

Tharoor said, "Frankly, this is a bad situation which shocked the country".

"The kids died because of the negligence of the government".

Tharoor further asserted that the situation in Gorakhpur's BRD hospitals states that after years of independence where our country's priorities lie. The first letter, he said, was sent to the government on 3 July. "This is not forgivable", he said.

The state's top health official admitted there had been a problem in the pipeline supplying oxygen, but added that the hospital managed the situation via its plentiful supply of oxygen cylinders.

Gorakhpur District Magistrate Rajeev Rautela said: "No death in BRD Medical College, Gorakhpur, has taken place due to shortage of oxygen supply".

The uncle of an 11-year-old girl who died at the hospital told ABP news channel: "We didn't know what was happening at the time".

The incident comes barely two days after the visit of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to the hospital to review its functioning.

The opposition Congress has demanded that Adityanath should apologise to the families who lost their children in the tragedy and the dismissal of the state Health Minister. Preliminary reports have indicated that a short supply of oxygen could have led to the deaths though the authorities insist they are still investigating the exact cause.

The principals of all the medical colleges in the state have also been told to personally ensure that there is no shortage of any medicine or oxygen, and no laxity in this regard will be tolerated, she said.

Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya today said the guilty will not be spared.

Earlier, the district administration had refuted the claims, ruling out disrupted oxygen supply. Local media reports also hinted at the possibility of a large tragedy in the hospital. Suspending the Principal after this and announcing an enquiry into the matter is just an eyewash. "Our party condemns it", Mayawati said. Is this culpable homicide as the Congress alleges and should UP Health Minister Sidharth Nath Singh resign? "Yes, 60 patients have died at the hospital in the last five days but we don't think it's linked to reports of oxygen shortage".
