Huddersfield Town are set to debut while Brighton and Hove Albion return after 23 years.

Guardiola also gave debuts to Kyle Walker and Danilo and Walker's pace gave the home side early jitters as he advanced down the right before cutting back a risky cross that Brighton cleared with difficulty.

Defensively Guardiola has gone out on the front foot to improve his fullback options with the signings of Danilo (Real Madrid), Benjamin Mendy (AS Monaco) and Kyle Walker (Tottenham Hotspur) - spending well over £100 million for the trio. "It's normal that the players and supporters are going to be celebrating for a period of time, but we have had to come down to reality", Brighton boss Hughton said.

With Pascal Gross and Markus Suttner signed from Bundesliga side Ingolstadt, Brighton have quickly followed the Premier League trend, creating a multinational squad with a strong European influence.

But Jamie Murphy - on for Chelsea loanee Izzy Brown, who hobbled off after 23 minutes - could not bring down a diagonal pass.

Last season was by far the most hard of Wenger's 21-year reign, with Arsenal's on-pitch travails exposing him to furious protests from angry fans. Guardiola is a believer in possession-based attacking, so Brighton fans can expect a Premier League bow involving a lot of work off the ball. That was actually their only loss of the summer, which does show they are in good form.

This seems to be the most likely formation Guardiola will opt for as we have seen in pre season a number of times.

Meanwhile, Ilkay Gundogan will also miss today's clash.

"We bought three and the market is so demanding for all the teams not just us".

Aguero's partnership with Gabriel Jesus looked threatening throughout, with Jesus having a goal disallowed for handball and Aguero wasting a clear chance before his eventual breakthrough.

"It was a tough game and a tough introduction into the Premier League, but we know we aren't going to be facing teams like that every week", he said.

"When you're up against the quality that they've got - they have designs on Champions League; ours is to stay in this division next season".

The Manchester giants are one of the title favourites and have spent £156m this summer, while Hughton guided Brighton to promotion from the Championship last season.

Sergio Aguero has five goals in six previous opening-day matches for Man City.

Fortified by Manchester City's £200 million ($260 million) overhaul, Pep Guardiola is under pressure to ensure his second season in the Premier League is far more successful than his torrid first. As far as the attack is concerned, that was never a problem area for Guardiola.
