Chelsea to make £27 million bid for Leicester City midfielder

Chelsea to make £27 million bid for Leicester City midfielder

According to Matt Law's report in the Telegraph, Chelsea have yet to follow-up on a rejected £15 million bid made "earlier in the window" for Leicester City for midfielder Danny Drinkwater, who's now sidelined with a thigh injury. Still, the Blues could offer the 27-year-old greater wages, as well as another chance to play in the UEFA Champions League. But Leicester could put up a fight for Drinkwater and demand the £40m Chelsea received from Manchester United for Nemanja Matic.

Although Chelsea have brought in Tiemoue Bakayoko to replace their Serbian midfielder, they are well short of numbers on the bench, with just 14 experienced players available.

The story also says that Drinkwater himself would be "interested" in a move to Stamford Bridge, but accepts that he would face competitive for a starting berth in the Blues' line-up.

Leicester City have maintained their stance on the midfielder, making it be known that he isn't for sale; however, every player has a price, and Drinkwater is no exception.

However, Antonio Conte is looking at a number of midfield options, with Barcelona's Sergio Roberto high on the Chelsea manager's list, and will not be held to ransom, according to The Telegraph.

Chelsea have spent almost £150million on signing Alvaro Morata, Antonio Rudiger and Bakayoko this summer but Conte is keen to add three of four new faces to his squad before the window closes. Drinkwater can definitely perform a solid role and with Matic no longer part of Chelsea, the Leicester City midfielder could be a valuable asset for Conte this season.
