Dallas Cowboys: Comparing Cooper Rush and Luke McCown

The suspension comes after an ex-girlfriend accused Elliot of domestic violence in OH a year ago.

Dallas Cowboys rookie running back Ezekiel Elliott was suspended six games by the NFL for violation of the league's personal conduct policy. "I recognize the distraction and disruption that all of this has caused my family, friends, teammates, the Dallas Cowboys organization as well as my fans - for that I am sincerely sorry". "I admit that I am far from flawless, but plan to continue to work very hard, on and off the field, to mature and earn the great opportunity that I have been given". The Columbus prosecutor's office declined to bring charges against Elliott in that case, citing "conflicting and inconsistent information across all incidents resulting in concern regarding the sufficiency of the evidence to support the filing of criminal charges".

The 2016 National Football League rushing leader was suspended despite prosecutors in Columbus, Ohio, deciding a year ago not to pursue the case involving Elliott's girlfriend at the time in the same city where he starred for Ohio State.

Earlier Friday, Elliott's representatives responded to the news, saying the league's findings are "replete with factual inaccuracies".

Elliott has since vowed to appeal the suspension. Elliott & his reps are "extremely disappointed".

"During the upcoming weeks and through the appeal a slew of additional credible and controverting evidence will come to light".

Elliott is appealing the suspension and could pursue other legal measures to get it reduced or overturned.

Elliott has had a string of off-field issues in the year since the Cowboys made him the fourth overall pick in the 2016 draft. Elliott was among several players on the Cowboys inactive list, despite his suspension not slated to begin until the start of the regular season.
