Halep headed to Rogers Cup semi against Svitolina

Wozniacki, who is the sixth seed, defeated unseeded Sloane Stephens in her semifinal match 6-2, 6-3.

Halep saved a match point as she broke for 5-1 in the second set but Svitolina was not to be denied in the next game, sealing her passage through to the final as the former fired a forehand into the net.

The sixth seed carried the momentum from her win over Pliskova into the match with Stephens, who was playing in only her third event after missing 11 months with a foot injury.

Wozniacki has had a big week, beating a world No. 1 for the first time on Friday when she knocked off Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic in the quarterfinals. "And I think it was closer than what the scoreline showed".

In doubles play, Ottawa's Gabriela Dabrowski and Latvia's Jelena Ostapenko defeated Germany's Julia Goerges and Ukraine's Olga Savchuk 4-6, 6-2, 10-3.

Wozniacki regained the momentum and after a brief rain delay she served out the match at 5-3. "It was really hard to serve with the wind, and I think both of us were returning very aggressive and going for the shots".

"I'll be playing against a very good opponent".

"Every time this year when it has been raining I've had a great tournament, so I thought this must be luck". But she's a very consistent player.

In earlier quarter-final matches on Saturday, Simona Halep continued her quest to defend her Toronto title with a straight sets win, while Elina Svitolina needed three sets to book the last semi-final spot. "She's strong there and she played her game".
