Nationals Bryce Harper carried off field with apparent knee injury

The Giants' game vs the Nationals in Washington D.C. was postponed Friday night due to weather.

Any significant injury to Harper could be devastating to the Nationals lineup, even with plenty of other talented players on the roster. Harper's left cleat appeared to slip on the wet first base bag as he leaned forward to try to beat Giants first baseman Ryder Jones.

Harper struck first base awkwardly while running and immediately fell to the ground in pain.

The game began just after 10 p.m. following a 3-hour rain delay. The star outfielder put no weight on his left leg as he was helped off the field by hitting coach Rick Schu and head athletic trainer Paul Lessard. The Nationals and Giants are set to play a doubleheader on Sunday. Last season, Nationals catcher Wilson Ramos suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament after a rain delay one week before the playoffs started.

After a down year by his standards in 2016, he is once again among the league's top hitters in 2017, batting.326 with 29 home runs and 87 RBI.
