Shapovalov becomes youngest ever semi finalist at Canada's Open

A tight start to the match went to serve for the first eight games leaving it 4-4, but Federer picked up the first break in the ninth game, repeatedly attacking Bautista Agut's second serves to the point at which the Spaniard double faulted to hand the Swiss the break.

Canadian teenager Shapovalov captured the imagination of an entire country, after upstaging top seed and 15-time grand slam champion Rafael Nadal as well as Juan Martin del Potro en route to the semi-finals in Montreal.

Federer said he knows Haase well from serving with him on the ATP player council and from practising together.

Shapovalov spent much of the match alternating between errors and impressive winners, consistently fighting off break points on his serve. I've been really clean at net. "I still have to work really hard every day". You know, he had a good start, I had a better finish.

"I'm very excited to be back in the finals", Federer said.

Unseeded Argentine Diego Schwartzman posted a odd win over American Jared Donaldson 0-6, 7-5, 7-5 to advance to a quarterfinal meeting with Robin Haase, the 52nd-ranked Dutchman who upset seventh-seeded Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria 7-6 (3), 4-6, 6-1.

Federer served two double faults in his opening service game but still managed to save three break points to fend off his bullish opponent. That was I think the thing that I struggled the most with today.

"Ever since I came on Tour, I just feel like you go out there, try your best", he added.

In the semi-final on Saturday, Haase will face the victor of the clash between Switzerland's Roger Federer, second seeded, and the Spanish Roberto Bautista Agut, ranked 12th. I won four. The one that I lost was against Roger.

Through this victory, which was peppered with nine aces, the 36-year-old legend has extended his match-winning streak to 16, which is his longest win streak in five years.

"If I don't save those match points in the first match, there's no chance of being here".

Roger Federer will be seeking his third career Rogers Cup title when he competes in Sunday's final at Montreal.

Haase, who upset seventh-seeded Grigor Dimitrov in the third round, was in his first career semifinal of a Masters Series tournament.

"Rafa took a lot out of me".
