Wenger reveals how he offered Giroud chance to quit Arsenal

Giroud had been linked with moves to Marseille, West Ham and Everton over the summer and speculation intensified when striker Alexandre Lacazette arrived at the Emirates with a £52 million price tag, the sort of money which demands game time.

The experienced Serb star was Manchester United's standout performer in a 2-1 loss to La Liga giants Real Madrid in the Champions League. These two players will add experience to the team and that should give them a chance. Danny Welbeck tied the score in the dying seconds of the first half. Mourinho is a coach who likes more ball practice, work on possession of the ball and play short games.

England striker Jamie Vardy, who was heavily linked with Arsenal 12 months ago, scored a brace either side of a Danny Welbeck leveller that showed Arsenal's rearguard to be equally terrible from open play and set-piece situations.

Giroud came off the bench with Arsenal trailing 3-2 in Friday's Premier League curtain-raiser at the Emirates Stadium and after fellow substitute Aaron Ramsey equalised, he headed in an 85th-minute victor.

The home side then secured the victory in the 86th minute as substitute Olivier Giroud powered home a header from close range, 4-3. Both Ramsey and Giroud played big parts in the win for Arsenal, as both ended up on the scoresheet. Familiarity may very well breed contempt, but even after two decades Wenger deserves more than his share of the credit for changing the game.

"I love the man and the player", the manager said in his post-match broadcast interview with Sky Sports.

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that he gave Olivier Giroud the chance to leave Arsenal this summer, but the powerful striker made a decision to stay put despite rumoured interest from a number of suitors including Everton.

"But I don't want him to go and in the end he chose to stay and it was one of the days of recent weeks for me because I know how important he is".

While the midfield and attack we have here is as impressive as it gets, we have left out Bernardo Silva, Raheem Sterling, Fernandinho and Yaya Toure.

Arsenal were without regulars Sanchez, Laurent Koscielny and Shkodran Mustafi against Leicester.
